Welcome to Fact vs. Myth, where I, Aaron Ackley, Owner of Auto Detail of Jackson, will discuss the facts and benefits of keeping up with your vehicles cleaning needs. While at the same time, I’ll try and give you a “detailer’s” perspective as to why some of the myths I hear, just don’t add up.
Before we get started, let’s discuss for a moment what exactly detailing is, and why it’s important to choose your shop carefully. After all, we are talking about your vehicle(s) here, and there are many steps that are taken when completing the process of making a vehicle look like new again. Now, you know it, and I know it, anyone can clean a vehicle, but it takes a true professional, someone that does it every day, to do it right the first time, and in a timely manner, and in essence, this is exactly what detailing is. Someone who knows which steps to take first, what products to use where, and how to make your vehicle really stand tall.
Myth #1:
“I don’t need to wax my vehicle it’s got a clear coat on it”. Or, “I get my vehicle waxed when it goes through the automatic wash”.
Fact:
This is a common myth that I hear often. The fact of the matter is, just about every vehicle produced by manufactures these day’s has a clear coat on it. This does not mean that the paint would not benefit from a good coat of wax that is actually hand, or machine polished into the paint, versus just having it splashed on at the auto wash. Just about every surface out there that you think is smooth, like glass for instance, actually has very small pits and valleys in it. These pits and valleys need to be filled-in, in order to maintain the integrity of the paint. Think of it like a pot hole in a road. If the road crew does not eventually fill it in, it will just deteriorate, and get worse.
Myth #2:
“I don’t want to wash my vehicle if it’s just going to get dirty again”.
Fact:
This is another one that I hear a lot, and believe me, I understand where people are coming from. Let me ask you something, when you get up in the morning do you say to yourself “I guess I don’t have to shower today because I’m just going to get dirty again”. I didn’t think so. The same goes for your vehicle. Just because it’s just going to get dirty again, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a shower every once in a while. There are plenty of nasty toxins out there on the road, and in the atmosphere that want nothing more, than to eat away your vehicles great appearance.
So, do yourself, and your car a favor, and give it a bath every once in a while, I promise, you won’t be sorry, and your car will appreciate it.
